The body is the most important vehicle for growth in the age of automation. Through years of training, dancers learn how to transform energy, ideas, and emotions into physical form. The digital age asks us to apply the intrinsic virtues of our dance training to a health promotion framework, connecting people to their shared humanity, and grounding them in a lived experience.
This site is a home for projects which reflect my interest in utilizing the intrinsic tools of dance and various dance forms as occupational therapy interventions for the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of functional outcomes throughout the lifespan. In addition, it is my intention that this site also pay homage and serve as historical record for a variety of dance and occupational therapy pioneers who have utilized creative interventions similarly in various communities and population groups over time. Utilizing dance forms as interventions, is a similar precept to early occupational therapy practices, when interventions not only focused on function but equally on emotional well being.
I hope to spark the imaginations of both allied health professionals and artists alike, because as the sage B. Springsteen reminds us “you can’t start a fire without a spark”.
